Growing it in Whyalla
Made for our hot, dry summers. Plant it in full sun in sandy, free-draining soil, water it in well, then only water when the soil is dry.
It hates wet feet and having its roots disturbed, so plant it straight from the tube without teasing the roots. It also grows well in a deep pot.
About this plant
A sprawling groundcover from the arid inland, famous for its clusters of bright red flowers, each with a shiny black boss in the middle.
- Great trailing over a wall or in a deep pot
- Grey, furry leaves that suit a dry garden
- Often short-lived, but worth it for the show
